Summer in the vineyards

A lot happens with and around the vines this time of year. One job follows the next, wild animals find a place to live here.

To do: Leaf removal, top removal, tying in, trunk cleaning, spraying, mulching.
What's all that about? Getting the leaves we want (or don't want) under control and keeping them healthy. The quality of the grapes is of course our top priority!

They should hang breezily enough to prevent fungal diseases, but without too much exposure to sunlight. Grapes can also have sunburn. In summer rain is either a myth from the distant past or quickly makes the tropics green with envy. That's why we need to keep the plants around the vines as low as possible without opening the door to erosion.

Many early mornings and hot hours await us till we can relax on vacation for the harvest. Hard work for great wines, that's what we're passionate about! 💛
