The wine-growing region called “Weinviertel” is found in Lower Austria. Its approximately 33,000 acres of vineyards represent almost a third (29.1 per cent) of all winegrowing in Austria.

In other words, the Weinviertel is Austria’s largest wine region. The cultivation area of the grape variety Grüner Veltliner amounts to some 15,000 acres or about 47 per cent!

The best and richest Grüner Veltliner is characterised by its typical terroir and marketed under the name Weinviertel DAC Reserve.

Weinviertel DAC designates the distinctive and immediately recognisable character of peppery Grüner Veltliner from the Weinviertel.

DAC stands for “Districtus Austriae Controllatus”, an EU-protected designation of origin for Austrian quality wine. A Weinviertel DAC is a Grüner Veltliner quality wine from the Weinviertel that has passed a blind tasting and was judged by an independent wine commission to express typical regional character.
