The soil of the site Kronberg is sand and lime. This wine is a full-bodied complex Grüner Veltliner Weinviertel DAC Reserve. This site exists at least since 1826.

Kirchengarten means church garden and as the name says this single-vineyard is next to Hohenwarth’s 1000-year-old church. Therefore is the Kirchengarten with approximately 360m above sea-level the highest vineyard in the village. The SETZER wine-estate’s vineyards mostly grow on chalky soil, but Kirchengarten has sandstone on the ground. The cooler climate and the different soil allow a special Weinviertel DAC Reserve, although the vinification is the same as the other Weinviertel DAC Reserves from SETZER wine-estate.

8000 is the flagship of SETZER wine-estate. 8000 vines per hectare were planted over 20 years ago on Setzer’s best sight. Through the high density of vines the roots are forced to grow deep in the ground and therefore hardly suffer drought stress. The vines produce less grapes than normal, because of limited nutrient. The soil is very chalky, white lines of chalk can be seen on the ground.

A rarity under the white wines, enormous fruity and lively on the palate with a subdued flavour of almonds. The vines on the single-vineyard Kreimelberg are the oldest of the SETZER wine-estate. Since more than 50 years they grow on very light soil with little nutrition. At a scale about the soil’s quality this vineyard has 18 from 100, but poor soil is perfect for this variety, because of the high potential for rot.
